The cultural heart of Doha, this inspiring museum holds one of the world's complete collections of Islamic artifacts, with pieces from Spain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, India and Central Asia. Designed by legendary architect I. M. Pei, the museum - a catalyst for the development of Doha - draws its inspiration from ancient Islamic architecture yet offers an intriguing modern design. Souq Waqif -

A feast for the senses, Waqif Souq is Qatar's popular shopping market. A large labyrinth of colourful alleys lined with shops and boutiques, this vibrant souq features perfumes, spices, incense, sweets, rice, dried fruits and souvenirs. Shoppers are tempted by enchanting aromas of international fragrances, Arabian and Indian oils, frankincense and sweet agar wood.

An oasis of calm along Corniche Doha Bay, Al Rumeila Park is in a popular family play area that resembles a traditional Qatari Village with grass, trees and water gardens. The park has a playground with slides, swings and rope roundabouts on soft sand next to the Doha Heritage Village, fitness equipment and a small kiosk that sells refreshments in the evening.

This family park also features an open air theater for an annual cultural festival that showcases local artists. Families relax and have picnics with their children until the sun sets. Surrounding the park are shops and a small auditorium, which was used for the opening of the American Jazz Festival.

Katara Cultural Village -

Created as a traditional Qatari seaside settlement, Katara is a vibrant gathering place where you can shop, eat and listen to music. In two of the tiny houses in the village men demonstrate the weighing and selling of pearls.

The site of festivals and special events, Katara Heritage Village is a hub of activity with locals weaving and practicing local crafts. As sun sets, the village is filled with music and dancing. Located 20 km from Doha on Salwa Road, where you see painted animals on its walls, Doha Zoo presents and protects more than 1,500 animals from over 147 species from around the globe.

Qatar National Museum -

An architectural masterpiece, the Qatar National Museum and Aquarium is a cultural highlight of any Doha vacation. Built in 1901 as the palace of the late ruler of Qatar, this incredible museum surrounding a salt water lagoon displays a vast and diverse collection of relics of traditional Qatari life.

Al Khoot Fort -

Built in 1927 to protect the Waqif souq, Al Khoot Fort is a Moorish-style relic of military power in the heart of Doha.  This historic fort was used as a prison in the early 20th century, but is presently a museum featuring local arts and crafts, including boat building, rope making and gypsum burning techniques.

The courtyard mosque is one of the massive fort's most interesting features, due to its missing walls and roof. Despite the lack of physical structure, the "mehrab" still faces the "Kaaba" in Mecca. Al-Koot fort has a square courtyard surrounded by a high wall. Circular towers are crowned with traditional Qatari battlements.

Al-Zubarah Fort -

Built in 1938 on the ruins of a destroyed castle, Al-Zubarah Fort is a pristine example of a traditional Qatari fort. Used by the Coast Guard until the mid 1980s, the fort is a museum that displays extraordinary artifacts uncovered from the neighboring Al-Zubarah town.

The ground floor houses exhibitions of archaeological findings, exquisite pottery and coins that reveal the military history and early development of Qatar. The ground floor also features small porticos overlooking the courtyard through square arcades. Climb one of the external staircases in the courtyard to the second floor, which consists of a wide promenade and rooms inside the corner towers with gunfire holes.

Singing Sand Dunes -

Located 40 km southwest from Doha, the Singing Sand Dunes are one of about 30 sites in the world where sound is naturally produced from sand dunes. A rare natural phenomenon, the singing dunes curve and form a natural desert amphitheatre that creates a singing or musical effect.
